Measuring Middle-Skills Gaps within the Finger Lakes Regional Economy

HOTEL MANAGEMENT

The hotel industry leads the service segment of our economy with continued expansion and job opportunities. Individuals trained in hospitality programs manage operations where food and/or lodging are provided. These may include luxury, full-service, convention, all-suite, mid-scale and budget hotels, motels, resorts, conference centers, inns, and bed and breakfasts. Hotel management professionals must know regulations relevant to the operation of hospitality facilities to ensure compliance with the law, articulate the necessary steps in executing a successfully-planned event, know the basic operating requirements of all the areas in a hotel, identify and discuss sales and marketing principles and procedures, and demonstrate the ability to apply proper food handling and culinary techniques.
