Measuring Middle-Skills Gaps within the Finger Lakes Regional Economy

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Working on cars requires an understanding of the science and technology that make up the modern automobile. As the automotive industry advances with sophisticated technology, employment opportunities will continue to increase for technicians who are more highly skilled than mechanics of the past. Computer usage and skills along with network communication diagnosis have become critical skills required to quickly and accurately diagnosis newer automobiles, hybrid and alternative fueled vehicles, and heavy diesel trucks. Automotive service technicians are trained for entry level employment with companies that require expertise in areas such as: electrical systems, engine performance, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension systems, air conditioning systems, and engine repair. Job opportunities for qualified mechanics are promising. 1
