Cancellation Policy Cancellation requests must be sent via e-mail to corporatecollege@monroecc.edu at least five business days prior to the scheduled start date of your class at MCC. Please include your name, address, daytime phone number, order number, course name, course code number and course dates. You will be refunded the cost of the class minus a $45 processing fee. Refunds may take up to 3 weeks to process. Incomplete requests cannot be processed for cancellation. Notification less than 5 business days will result in forfeiture of tuition unless you can provide docu- mentation of a medical problem or death in the family. Exceptions will not be made. There is no switching from one course to another. Make sure the class you register for is one you can attend. If you must make a change, you will need to cancel the class you don’t want per the instructions above. Then you will need to register for the course that better fits your schedule. You will be expected to pay the full registration fee for this course. Mandatory Online Course Prerequisite (Motorcycle Safety Foundation eCourse) Required for both the Basic RiderCourse Beginner and Basic RiderCourse Intermediate

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation requires taking their eCourse (online) which you must complete prior to attending your in-person class at MCC.

• Completion date of the eCourse needs to fall within 30 days of your class at MCC. If you complete the eCourse more than 30 days before your class at MCC, you will need to retake the eCourse. • The eCourse course can be completed in approximately 3 hours and consists of 12 sections. • At the end of each section, there is a quiz. You can retake the quiz as often as needed and must score 80% before you can move on to the next section. You must pass all 12 sections to access your Certificate of Completion.

• You will need to print your Certificate of Completion upon completion of the eCourse.

• You must bring your Certificate of Completion to the first day of your class at MCC.

• If you have problems completing the eCourse or printing your certificate, you should still report to your class at MCC on time and prepared to ride. Failure to report will result in forfeiture of tuition.

Accessing the MSF eCourse You must be registered for a Learn 2 Ride class at MCC before you can access the eCourse. The eCourse is available only through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s website. GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE BASIC RIDERCOURSE BEGINNER • Motorcycles are provided. • Cost is $275 due at time of registration. Registration must be done online. • Class Location: Monroe Community College’s Applied Technologies Center, 2485 West Henrietta Road, Rochester, New York 14623. Note - This is NOT MCC’s main campus. • Participation in this course requires the ability to ride a bicycle, physical stamina, motor coordination, mental alertness, and meeting the objectives of the riding exercises. • The riding exercises are physically demanding. You will be required to push the motorcycle while straddling it. • Arrive on time, prepared and ready to ride. There is no grace period allowed, and if you are late you will forfeit your tuition. • Minimum height recommendation is 5 feet. If in doubt, contact Learn2Ride Inc. at 585-615-7433 prior to registering. You may need to make arrangements to “try on” one of our motorcycles prior to class. (You must be able to sit with both feet flat on the ground. If you arrive at class and cannot do this, no refund will be given.) • There is no guarantee of successful com- pletion and there are no refunds once the course begins. • Classes run rain or shine, and in extreme heat.

Basic RiderCourse Beginner (two-day course; DMV Road Test Waiver eligible) The Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic RiderCourse Beginner is designed for those with very little or no experience riding a motorcycle. It is a combination online, classroom and hands-on riding program which introduces and practices the physical and mental skills necessary to ride a motorcycle. The Basic RiderCourse Beginner is scheduled for 16 hours (in addition to the 3-hour online course pre- requisite.) Multiple classes are offered in Rochester at Monroe Community College each year beginning in April and ending in September or October. COURSE COMPONENTS 1. Online Course Prerequisite (Mandatory): see page 3 for this information. 2. Classroom: An electronically supported classroom session using small work groups with facilitated, interactive learning activities focuses on perception development and situational awareness to further develop the mental skills necessary for street riding. 3. Hands-on Riding Exercises (approximately 5 hours each day):

Day 1 – Each riding exercise has specific objective(s) that must be achieved to continue.

Day 2 – At the end of the riding exercises, the riding skill evaluation is conducted.

NEW YORK STATE DMV INFORMATION • To participate in this course, you must have a valid NYS or out-of-state driver’s license. (No DUI restrictions, suspensions, revocations, ID cards or driver’s learner permits.) • You must be 16 years of age or older and possess a current, valid New York State driver’s license (no driver’s learner permits!). If you are 16 or 17, you must bring a parent or legal guardian to the first session to sign permission paperwork. • A NYS motorcycle learner’s permit should be obtained from the NYS DMV prior to attending. The permit is not required for registration or attendance, but is required to be eligible for the Road Test Waiver of the NYS DMV Road Test. If you do not have a permit, you may take the course, but understand that you must obtain a permit from DMV to be eligible for the Road Test Waiver of the NYS DMV Road Test. • Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a NYS specific Motorcycle Safety Foundation Completion Card. You present this card, along with your current, valid motorcycle learner’s permit and current, valid driver’s license at a DMV to qualify for the Road Test Waiver option and have your license upgraded. • If you possess an out-of-NYS license, your state of residence may recognize the NYS Motorcycle Safety Foundation Completion Card as a Road Test Waiver. Contact your state’s DMV to find out. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS 1. Complete eCourse and provide course completion certificate.

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS • Certificate of Completion for eCourse, printed within 30 days of the start date of your

in-person class at MCC (refer to Mandatory Online Course Prerequisite section on page 3). • Current, valid New York State driver’s license. • Required Riding Gear (Bring to ALL sessions. You will not be allowed to ride without it and you will forfeit your tuition.)  Helmet: Must be DOT approved (loan helmets are available if needed).  Eye Protection: Face shield, safety glasses or goggles (sunglasses are acceptable).  Gloves: Leather (preferably) or cotton – NO FINGERLESS GLOVES.  Jeans: Denim or other sturdy material – NO HOLES & NO FLARE-LEG!  Jacket: Denim or other sturdy material or long sleeved shirt or sweatshirt.  Boots: Must cover the ankle and be of sturdy material to provide support and protection and have as flat a heel as possible – NO SNEAKERS.  Rain Gear: Classes run rain or shine. • Snacks/lunch and water (classes run even in extreme heat; it’s important to stay hydrated).

2. Complete classroom session and pass a knowledge test (initial or retest).

Basic RiderCourse Intermediate (one-day course for experienced, permitted riders; DMV Road Test Waiver eligible) The Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic RiderCourse Intermediate is designed for licensed, permitted riders who are currently riding frequently and have held a valid New York State motorcycle permit for at least one riding season. This course is not for begin- ners or Junior Operators under 18 years of age. The Basic RiderCourse Intermediate is a combi- nation online and hands-on riding course which reinforces and practices the physical skills and techniques necessary to ride a street motorcycle. The course is approximately 6 hours (in addition to the 3-hour online course prerequisite).

COURSE COMPONENTS 1. Online Course Prerequisite (Mandatory): see page 3 for this information. 2. Hands-on Riding Exercises (approximately 5-6 hours): The riding exercises practice slow speed control, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgment and finesse, stopping quickly – straight line and curves, and swerving to reinforce the skills found essentially absent in incident/crash involved motorcyclists. You MUST meet the objectives of riding exercises #1 to continue. (If you cannot, you will be counseled out of this course (no refund) and advised to register and pay for the 2-day Basic RiderCourse Beginner.) At the end of the riding exercises, the riding skill evaluation is conducted.

Frequently Asked Questions Will I receive a confirmation of registration? If your registration is successful, you will receive multiple confirmation e-mails almost immediately. If you do not see them in your inbox, check your junk or spam mail box. If you do not complete the payment transaction during registration, please follow up with our office at 585-685-6004 or corporatecollege@monroecc.edu to arrange payment, and confirm you have the seat. Do I need a driver’s license? Yes. For additional information, refer to Basic RiderCourse Beginner (page 4), or Basic RiderCourse Intermediate (page 8) sections. Do I need a motorcycle learner’s permit? Refer to information in Basic RiderCourse Beginner (page 4) or Basic RiderCourse Intermediate (page 8) sections. What do I do after I register? Refer to the Mandatory Online Course Prerequisite (page 3). Can I cancel? Refer to Cancellation Policy (page 2). Is there a cancellation/waiting list? No. When a cancellation occurs, the seat is automatically added back to inventory on the website. What if I do not complete the eCourse? You are required to take the eCourse prior to your class at MCC, and must bring your Certificate of Completion to the first day of your class. If for some reason you do not, or cannot, complete the eCourse, you should still report to yourMCC class as scheduled. Failure to report will result in forfeiture of your tuition (no refund).

What must I do to pass the course? You must successfully complete (1) the eCourse and provide your Completion Certificate, (2) the classroom session and pass the knowledge test (Basic RiderCourse Beginner only), either initial or retest and (3) the hands-on riding exercises and pass a skill evaluation, either initial or retest. Will I receivemymotorcycle license at the end of the course? No. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a NYS specific Motorcycle Safety Foundation Completion Card. You present this card, along with your current, valid motorcycle learner’s permit and current, valid driver’s license at a DMV to qualify for the Road Test Waiver of the NYS DMV Road Test, and have your license upgraded. Can I bring and ride my own bike? Basic RiderCourse Beginner – No; training motorcycles are provided for this combination classroom/hands-on program. Basic RiderCourse Intermediate – Yes, you are required to bring a street-legal motorcycle (good tires and mechanically sound) with proof of current inspection, registration and insurance. Can I miss any sessions? No, you cannot miss any sessions. You need to arrive on time and prepared. No refunds are issued after a course begins. You must attend ALL of the class sessions or you will forfeit the entire course fee. There can be no switching of classes. Also, you must allow additional time in your schedule, typically evenings, for the possibility of a makeup session due to inclement weather conditions for motorcycle riding. Although classes will continue in light rain, there is the possibility that the Rider Coaches, at their discretion, may need to reschedule for the safety of all.

You must attend all of the rescheduled class or risk forfeiture of the entire course fee. You must attend ALL sessions of the class to be eligible for state benefits. What if I do NOT pass either the knowledge test and/or the riding skill evaluation? If you do not pass the knowledge test, you may retest once (on another day) at no charge. If you do not pass the skill evaluation, you may schedule one retest within 30 days at no charge. What if I am counseled out of the course? A student may be counseled out of the course if in the instructor’s judgment the student has demon- strated they may be a danger to themselves or others in the course. There is no refund if you are counseled out.

If I decide not to continue or am dismissed due to improper gear, can I receive a refund? No, there are no refunds once the course begins.
