Highlights Design for Re-X

ENGINEERING The Design for Re-X grouping consists of six engineering occupations. As with many of the engi- neering groupings across the five REMADE nodes, there is high frequency of requested certifica- tions (39%) involving process improvement and quality including Six Sigma, CQE and ASQ certifi- cations. Security Clearance is the highest ranked single certification (30%). This Skill Clusters and Specialized Skills analysis for this grouping were diverse ranging from mechanical engineering, project management, system design and implementation as well as including drafting and engineering design. The number of total jobs and job postings over time both show an overall positive growth trend over the seven-year period of the analysis. Architectural, Engineering, and Related Services, Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing and Pharmaceutical and Medicine Manufacturing account for 61% of the industries driving posting data for the Design for Re-X node. The six-member Design for Re-X grouping occupational demographic was one of the oldest within the overall analysis with 26.1% of the most experienced engineers in this node within 10 years or less of retiring from industry. TECHNICIAN The Design for Re-X analysis shows the top most requested certification (31% of postings) for technicians in this grouping is security clearance. 59% of job postings for the six technicians included in this grouping advertised an education level of less than an associate’s degree, preferring a high school diploma and/or some vocational training. Architectural, Engineering & Related Services, followed by Commercial & Industrial Machinery & Equipment Repair & Maintenance were the strongest industries driving 62% of online postings for this technician grouping. 63% of postings advertised a wage of up to $49,000 (up to $23 an hour). Repair, maintenance and basic electrical knowledge are the highest returned Skill Clusters in this sample accounting for 43% of the advertised skills for this grouping. Additionally, nearly half (48%) of the Specialized Skills advertised were for repair (36%) followed by predictive and preventative maintenance (12%). Unlike the other technician groupings in this analysis, the Design for Re-X technician postings indicated employer interest in a basic electrical systems skill-set including understanding of schematic diagrams, test equipment, and wiring. The occupational demographic for this grouping indicates a 10-year age out of 27.2% of the most experienced technicians will retire from industry within 10 years or less.
